Home Tip Tuesday: 2017 Home Decor Trends

Marble is going to be big this year.

Freshening up your home with upcoming trends is one way to keep your abode stylish and modern. If you're planning a remodel, explore the top 2017 home decor trends.

Natural Materials
Marble is having a major moment. If redoing the kitchen in marble is out of your budget, consider adding in small touches of marble. Marble coasters, marble cheese boards, or marble-topped side tables bring the natural stone into your home.  Alongside marble, look for lush wood that features deep natural grain patterns.

Bright Colors
Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year, Greenery, is a vibrant yellow-green that's reminiscent of jungle plants for fans or Kermit the Frog for detractors. Expect the color to crop up in fabrics and furnishings. If you're not into Greenery, you can always add natural greenery with plants.

On the other end of the color spectrum, jewel colors are on trend again. Think sapphire, amethyst, or ruby. Bold hues like these work well in small doses. Throw pillows or scatter rugs are inexpensive and allow you to freshen your color palette with trendy hues.

Ceramics in bone white will be trending.

Artisan Ceramics & Decor Pieces
DIY can move over in 2017, as the focus now shifts to pieces that are handmade, albeit by artists. Ceramics in bone white are expected to be a major trend, as is blown glass.
Clear off the dated DIY pieces (think mason jars and burlap) to make room for a few artisanal statement pieces, such as vases, lamps, or planters.

Mixed Patterns
Pattern mixing is a bold trend for the runway, which means it's only a matter of time until this trend makes it to the home decor sphere. Rather than mixing patterns in different items -- say, a paisley blanket beside chevron pillows -- look for items that blend patterns together in one item.   Mixed prints are bold statements, so it's often best to incorporate trends like this in small touches. Think new curtains, throw pillows, or throws.

Furniture will be soft and touchable.

Comfortable Furniture
With self care as a buzzword for 2017, it's only natural that comfortable furniture be on trend. Think plush, luxurious materials that feel naturally soft. From oversized knits to velvety sofas, furniture will be super soft and touchable this year. Update an old sofa or chair with a comfortable piece in faux fur, mohair, or velvet.

Straight-edges pieces are out in 2017, with rounded edges growing in popularity. If you're replacing an item like a coffee table, look for rounded edges rather than straight to stay fresh.

Trends that are on the way out include brushed metals, oversized furniture, and strictly period rooms. As you experiment with these new trends in home decor, consider what current possessions you can part with mindfully.
