Fun and Easy Halloween Crafts for Indoors or Out

Creating and setting out special decorations is one way families create traditions.
Setting out special decorations is a big part of holiday fun and one way families create traditions. Halloween may not invoke the same warm and sentimental feelings as Thanksgiving or Christmas, but it can still be a time for the family to get together and make memories while making some fantastic and super-easy Halloween decorations.

Mummy Lanterns
Even the youngest kids in the family can help with this easy craft. An empty glass jar, a roll of first-aid gauze, two googly eyes and a dab of glue is all you need to make a fun Halloween lantern that can be used anywhere. Simply wrap the gauze around the jar and tie the two ends to secure. Glue on a pair of medium-sized googly eyes to make it look like a mummy’s eyes are peeking through the gauze. Place a little sand in the bottom of the jar and add a lit votive candle to light up your walkway, porch or party table.

Flying Bats
Whether you make one or an entire colony this spooky bat looks great hanging from the ceiling or above the front door for trick-or-treaters to enjoy. Bend a wire hanger in the shape of a bat – let the hook represent the head – and slide a black nylon knee-high sock over the form. Tie a knot in the sock to keep it on, and add a string to the head for hanging. The slightest breeze keeps these bats moving overhead for a classic spooky effect.

Halloween is a good time for the family to get together with fun and easy crafts.

Gilded Pumpkin
If you like the expensive look of gilded pumpkins, but don’t want to spend a ton on real silver leaf try this smart craft. Crumple a sheet of aluminum foil then smooth it out again until it feels very soft and pliable. Tear large chunks from the sheet and glue them onto a craft pumpkin with white glue, overlapping the pieces to create texture. Once the entire pumpkin is covered and the glue is dry dab the corner of a lint-free cloth or a craft sponge into silver paint. Rub the paint all over the pumpkin. The added layer of paint will knock down the shine of the aluminum and make it look like real silver leaf. You could further embellish this ritzy pumpkin with stick-on jewels or felt letters with your family’s monogram.

Easiest Craft… Ever

This project’s for anyone who thinks they’re not crafty. You can't mess it up! Use scrap wood like a 2x4 or leftover fence post and cut it into chunks of various heights starting at about 4 inches tall up to 12 inches tall. Paint the pieces orange. Wind a green pipe cleaner around your finger to create a spiral and staple one end of the pipe cleaner onto the top of a wood chunk. Stretch and shape the pipe cleaner a little to look like a stem. That’s it! These little square pumpkins are homey while still being chic and modern. You’ll want to make an entire patch.
